PPI cold calls still continue despite the legal enforcement of task forces designated to stop rogue CMCs and telemarketing firms.

According to local media, the menace of PPI cold calls began with salesmen and accident claims firm. The cold calls continued combined with PPI claims and demands for people to make charity donations.

The task force’s implementation lacks power as ministers still drag their feet to make changes to the rules. This has left many rogue firms to continue pestering customers.

About 61,500 official complaints have been lodged in the Information Commissioner’s Office as enforcement began. Consumer Group Which? said only two per cent of people were likely to make a complaint after receiving a cold call. It is possible that the number of people who received cold calls this year have reached three million.

Insurance staff bribing gave CMCs access to information, especially the phone numbers of people involved in car crashes.
